The Wikipedia entry on Interaction Design _tries_ to distinguish it from
UI Design. Whether it succeeds is a matter of opinion, I guess.

Many tech writing positions require that ability.

Right, it's just a name thing. For example, I identify myself as a QA
Manager, but you might look at my job description and say, "Senior
technical writer."
