As a contractor, you may not have been admitted to the thinking at 
circle zero. Perhaps, for instance, they're trying to attract venture 
capital or a buyer. And what dangles more alluringly than a company that 
is successful but lacks the sophistication needed to really take off? 
Seriously--they've got YOU (with no stake) drooling, so imagine the 
effect on someone who acquires small companies for a living.
