As Tevye the milkman would say, "You're both right." Seb's recommended
PDF Watermark Creator only slightly increased the file size, so I don't
really need PDF Compressor.

Much more important for me is the processing speed: Adobe's watermarker
and compressor took way too long, whereas PDF Watermark Creator and PDF
Compressor did the job in an instant.
