Hi Jim,

I just went through this process. I recommend a two-step approach: style
clean-up>Remove Hidden Data tool.

When the document is complete and ready to publish, run a macro to clean up
extraneous styles. One of our software people tested the macro that's
available from editorium and modified it somewhat. He was able to get the
macro to function properly on every aspect of our documents EXCEPT that the
macro will strip away formatting in text boxes. You need to convert text
boxes to frames to prevent this from happening.

After all the extraneous styles have been cleaned up, we apply the Remove
Hidden Data tool, a free download from Microsoft that will also apply to
Excel and PowerPoint. When you run the RHD you will need first to save the
document, then rename the file. If you have file naming conventions, this is
a good time to verify that your file name is correct. The RHD takes only a
few moments--very fast.

When you run the RHD, all information in the File>Properties tabs will also
be removed, as will the previously mentioned macro. If you want to have
information in the properties tabs, you will need to reenter it.

All that being said, I don't generally use the RHD on TEMPLATES but on
DOCUMENTS. Perhaps someone else on the list can comment on the use of the
RHD on templates.

Hope this helps.

Pat
