I can speak to only your first question. Help & Manual enables me to
generate on-line help that displays an image at 75% (or whatever % I
choose) of its original size AND, when clicked, displays the image at
its full size. I'm not sure how this would work with callouts.

Do any of you regularly reduce the size of your screenshots? I usually
reduce all my screenshots to 75% of their original size. This allows me
to
capture a width of 700 px rather than 525 px, which gives more context
to
what I'm pointing out. After I capture at a width of 700, reducing it by
75%
changes it to 525 px, which fits into my printed manual's margins.

However, I've noticed that resizing in Word or InDesign results in a
much
crisper image than resizing in SnagIt or Photoshop. So for my printed
images, I resize them in Word using a macro. However, this technique
makes
callouts difficult, because text that is resized never quite looks as
clear
to me as the original size. As a result, I use captions much more than
callouts. If I do use callouts, I don't resize anything.
