Companies don't need "excuses" not to hire someone,
especially not in a down economy. For most employers,
the ideal candidate is someone who has enough direct
experience to hit the ground running but not so much
that they'll jump ship for a better offer the moment things
start to get better, and who has a squeaky-clean
background check with no legal or financial issues that
might be a distraction or worse, a temptation to engage
in theft of real or intellectual property. In good times,
that ideal might comprimised and some added risk
taken with a candidate who "has issues," but when
every job posting brings in hundreds of resumes from
people who fit the "ideal candidate" mold, you can
pretty much forget about out-of-the-box thinking from
most people in the recruiting chain.

If they don't want to hire me, they'll come up with an excuse.
