I can't explain WHY Microsof chooses to break file names at
punctuation. However, historically hyphenated file names were
incompatible with some file systems, so intelligent systems replace
them with underscores.
To write a macro, you would store the document properties you want
into variables, process them to replace disallowed characters,
truncate the length to a workable maximum, assign a version number,
and use the file save as routine.
I have macros like that in my startup template so I cn use them in all my docs.
