Aha! I see the disconnect. We're talking about two completely
different animals.

You're talking about academic writing, as in somebody publishing their
own research.

I'm talking about commercial writing, where a company hires a
third-party to write an informative paper on a technology or issue and
various relevant applications or solutions.
