I agree, but in most cases, keeping your head above water is paramount. If
you can to that, then you can start looking into content management and so
on. Of course, I say this because I am the lone writer (my staff was cut to
me over the last two years) and I'm trying to keep up with about 100
engineers. I am able to do this because I wrote a significant portion of the
company's documentation over the last four years, so I know where to cut and
paste from, but I have never had the time, and probably will never have the
time to set up a solid, efficient content management program.
With that said, I do agree that WordPress and PHP are good things to get
familiar with, and I just returned to Corel's products after Adobe priced
themselves out of my budget. CSS and the latest HTML flavor are always good
things to have in your back pocket, as are any product from TechSmith (such
as SnagIt).
