It now occurs to me that that _might_ have been a benefit 
of keeping my STC membership. If they kept records, then 
STC would know that I was a member in the '90s and that 
my then employer had paid the shot...  or did I pay and 
then get reimbursed... hmm. Well, at least I would have  
listed that same employer every year for eight years 
on my renewals. 

But then, other than a couple of years at the start of 
my current gig, I let my STC membership lapse. Nobody 
was paying for trips to Phoenix or Orlando, or Chicago, 
my couple of SIGs had died of indifference, and neither 
I nor my employer could think of a good reason to spring 
for another year. 

STC, if you're listening, and remember me (institutional 
memory), I'll consider re-upping and supporting your 
certification effort. Otherwise, not-so-much.
