I’ve done just enough editing to know it’s not easy. In fact, it is a separate profession, with professional groups, certification, a body of knowledge, and even a non-trivial psychological component. (I’ve been told writers have fragile egos that need soothing and gentle dissuasion.) For writers to comment on the relative ease or difficulty of editing is like programmers to comment on the relative ease or difficulty of writing. (They usually don’t see what the big deal is, right?)
(I know even less about graphic design, and to me it’s not hard; you just draw a few lines and boxes and you’re done, right? Well, maybe not 8^)
