TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Thanks, Robert. I knew the acronyms, but not much more.
The company has prior experience with SharePoint, as do I, and neither of
us consider it to be a useful tool for the repurposing they/I envision. I
also have some experience with Documentum, although it was ten years ago
(!) and was for a very brief period. (My team was practicing with it before
Accenture sent us all packing.)
What I think they have in mind is a tool that only a handful of folks will
ever access... primarily me (if I get the nod to come aboard). I don't
think they're all that interested in HAT, as much as they are being able to
simply repurpose blocks of text (conformance statements and such).
Along the way, and this is likely another topic, they're interested in a
method of retraining shop floor workers that is engaging. For example, one
person may not have used some tool for eight months. Because they follow
very strict QC guidelines handed down by their parent company (along with
safety standards and the like), they expect that person to briefly retrain
on that tool before going ahead with production. We discussed videos.
In essence, I'd be wearing many hats, taking over for their first and only
technical writer who has moved on. I like wearing many hats, so I'm up for
it.
