RE: What do you call the Three Dots?

I thought the original poster was referring to the three stacked dots that are used in Web interfaces to represent a menu of options. 

Which raises an argument against calling that symbol an ellipsis; since the series of dots is vertical, not horizontal. 

Android calls it the Overflow Menu; Apple calls it the More Options icon. 

I think the clearest way of describing it is "three dots icon"

"Ellipsis button" will be meaningless to the vast majority of end users.

According to Microsoft, what you're describing is a "browse" button.

I would resist using only an ellipsis, especially if there's no tooltip for the button.
