Dan - In terms of reading on hypertext, you might try the
_Hypertext/Hypermedia Handbook_ edited by Emily Berk and Joseph Devlin
(McGraw-Hill 1991). The volume itself is long (583 pages) but the essays
are short. It has 10 sections (Introduction, Types of Hypertext,
Conventions for Writers/Readers, Automatic vs Hand Generation, Designing
Hypertexts, Licensing and Protection, Issues for Readers, Integrating
Hypertext with other Technologies, Industrial Strength Hypermedia, The
Future of Hypertext). It's a good introduction to many of the issues.
