In the US Air Force, the STATUS of a piece of equipment
was assigned a color:
Green: fully operational, and all spare replacement parts
also operational;
Amber: Operational, but not enough spares to fix it if
something breaks - also used if running in a degraded
mode;
Red: Not operable.

The crow was a goodly distance away, a
challenge to his marksmanship. Just for
sport (NOT for food), he took long. careful
aim and fired. Said crow obediently flopped
to the ground, dead.
As the smoke cleared, the soldier was
shocked to hear:
"HANDS UP, Yankee Doodle!"
