I've found that sometimes you will have to guide your clients. This doesn't
have to be heavy handed, but you should remember that you are the expert in
documentation. If you leave them to their own devices, you will do much
unnecessary or inadequate work. Of course experience helps. If you know
exactly how to develop a particular type of documentation, you can prevent
your client from spending unnecessary funds and time on dead ends. You
certainly must satisfy your client's demands; however, it is also your
obligation to point out optional approaches. Good luck!
