The ideal situation would be:

1. Scan the picture
2. Correct the image with Photoshop
3. Import the Photoshop image into a proper drawing program*
4. Use the drawing program to do the callouts and whatnot
5. Import the graphic into Word

:)

Remember that using Photoshop, you can alter the image to highlight the
buttons you want without having to, for example, draw circles around the
buttons.

Word's graphic capabilities are _so_ clunky and inconsistent they really
shouldn't be used for anything serious, remotely complex, or important.
Drawing programs are ideal for the kind of thing you're talking about and
that's what they should be used for. Word should only import
already-finished graphics, not make new ones.

Another reason to not use Word for anything graphic is that you can't
export what you create in Word. If you wanted to use the same graphic in
another program, you would be out of luck.



* On the Mac: Illustrator or Freehand, on Wintel: Corel or Corel
