Ah yes, the pesky hard G or the soft G??

I had assumed the hard G myself, but everyone else I heard saying
it used the soft G. When I started using the soft G, I got a few odd
looks, but no comments.

So far, when the discussion is in writing, people lean toward
hard G for exactly the reason most people gave: it stands for graphics,
with a hard G. But in verbal conversations, people say soft G. I remain
confused.
