The thing about listing your credentials is that, as
always, it depends on your audience. Many academics (by no
means all) expect to see the "Ph.D" as your stamp of
credibility; without it, you have to work hard to overcome
their first impression of you. An audience comprised
primarily of those who lack Ph.Ds may see this
self-promotion as arrogant or condescending. On the whole,
it's safer to omit the credentials than to include them,
but there are noteworthy exceptions.
