I got a chuckle out of Eric's recent post stating that he knows employers who
search the archives of techwrl looking for candidates who have posted. I
haven't tried that bit of candidate research, but have used search engines to
look "in general" where a candidate may have posted or to see if they have a
home page. This is risky business, however; with all the legalities involved
in hiring, next I fear there will be a protected class called "Can't design a
webpage to safe life."

Seriously, a word of advice to those who do put their web address on their
resume. Please make sure your links work! I'm sorry, but this falls into the
same category as the typo on the resume boo-boo. Please make sure your page
is fit for potential employer viewing. Sounds simple, but you'd be surprised.
One particular category to be careful in is the "links" section of your page.
It may reveal more about you than your prospective employer wants to know!
Again, as a prospective employer, I can't exclude you based on certain
information I find there, but if you tell me what you really want to be is a
best-selling novelist, well, sorry!
