You need to tell us what software you are using. And is absolutely ALL
formatting lost?

If you are using Word: I had a similar problem on a contract a year ago. I
think that I had redefined some system styles, such as Normal and Heading
1. When someone opened the document on another system, the new system's
style characteristics overrode mine. I think that I renamed all of my
styles with unique names to solve the problem.
