I learned about technical writing while working a temp job as an admin
assistant. I knew I could do TW work, changed my resume focus, switched
agencies, went from $10/hr on Friday to $30/hr on Mondau, and really, the
day-to-day work was not that different, but I had much more control of my
workload, and it was my steping stone into TW.
