I know this is potentially off-topic, but it has been bothering me
enough
over the last couple of weeks that I just can't resist any longer:

When did "send" become a noun??? This usage makes me lurch every
time I see it. I most commonly see the terms "message", "submission",
"posting", or "post" used to refer to the material one sends to a BBS or
a list server, and all of these words work just fine as a noun (even if
one
is a gerund). But according to two dictionaries I consulted, the only
noun sense of "send" is a semi-archaic usage to refer to the lift of a
wave.
