We follow the Council of Biology Editors manual, Scientific Style and
Format, which explains:

CE, "Common Era"--a dating system used by historians that replaces the
traditional BC with BCE and AD with CE, reflecting cultural sensitivity to
the feelings of the majority of the people of the world, who are not
Christians. The divisions of time are the same.
