Word inserted Section 2 because you told it to without realizing. Changing
the paragraph format to two columns (or changing the page format from
portrait to landscape) requires a new section in Word. To get the page
numbering back to normal:
1. Go to the first page of the new section. Turn on Show/Hide par.
marks to find it, there will be a Section Break Continuous near the top of
page 138
2. Go to Insert...Page Numbers..
3. Make sure the Show number on first page check box is checked
4. Click the Format... button
5. Check the Continue from previous section radio button
6. Close the dialog
You may also need to repeat these steps on the second page of the second
section, and whenever you regenerate the index.
Other Techwhirlers may have a better solution, but this has worked for me.
