What's in it for you? How about:

* Some universities/colleges will provide a wage
subsidy to employers who hire interns. For example,
some Canadian internship/co-op programs provide a
$200 - $300 monthly subsidy to the employer (or
student, if the student chooses to be self-employed,
but the student must charge a reduced rate/fee).

* There are also government employment programs
that provide a wage subsidy to employers who hire
post-grads looking to break into the market. Check
with your state/federal (un)employment offices.

* Interns often "spread the word" about the quality of
an employer. If you treat an intern well, they often
suggest that peers and acquaintances apply to work
for your company. Reputation goes a long way when
you are trying to attract young talent.

* Internships are, as you said, an effective recruiting
tool. You can find the best talent before anyone else.

* Internships are an excellent way for companies to
add staff to a project without having a lot of staff "on
the books".

* Interns work very hard, and if they are given appro-
priate guidance and tools, can do really cool stuff.

* Interns often possess leading-edge knowledge of new
technologies and research. Or, if their skills aren't
"leading edge", they may simply have knowledge or
skills that no one else in your organization has.

Just a short list of "what's in it for you".

Cheers, Rowena
