I wrote a letter to the manufacturer and told them how and why the bad documentation reflected upon the company. Never occured to me to offer my services. I just wanted to let the manufacturer know how bad the instructions made them look. But they called me, and I ended up redoing the instructions and making them user-friendly and all the other things we tech writers do. I have no doubt that many manufacturing (and other) companies still need to be educated on the fact that their documentation can be reflective on their products.
