Subject:Framemaker vs. PageMaker? From:Geoff Hart <Geoff-h -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> Date:Fri, 20 Aug 1999 07:58:07 -0400
Melanie Shook wondered <<Does anyone have advice about
the advantages of FrameMaker vs. PageMaker?>>
Have a look at the techwr-l archives (url at the bottom of this
message) for details, but the bottom line is that you can
probably do your job in either package, but you'll probably
have an easier time in Frame. At the risk of being simplistic,
PageMaker is the better tool if you're doing design-intensive
work, particularly if you're printing in 4- or 6-color process,
whereas Frame is far superior for long, complex documents
with highly structured contents (e.g., user manuals). Frame
also offers a far superior growth path if you think you'll ever
need SGML in the future.

something just calling out for us to discover it. But I
suspect that it is only a pernicious, Pythagorean coincidence." George
Miller, "The Magical Number Seven" (1956)
