Adobe Table, as you know, exports EPS graphics of tables, not editable
text. The solution is to design tables as tabbed text and set them
directly in PageMaker.
Begin with Chicago Manual of Style for guidance in table design. For the
vertical rules that you _need_ (very few, generally, despite what Word
defaults to), create graphic rules in PM and group them with your tabbed
text story so you can move the table as a piece.
In PM, the best strategy is to create NUMEROUS styles (maybe several for
each table) so that you can manage different numbers of columns, heads
centered over numeric (flush right) columns, various table rules,
straddles, etc. But once you have these created, you can reuse them by
importing them from a template into multiple documents.
