This is not unusual, especially when the post office is in a smaller
town (I assume Tracy is "smaller"). I live in Logan UT, 85 miles NE
of Salt Lake. I have sent correspondence to people in Logan, and it
arrived the very next day with a Logan postmark. I have also sent
mail that arrived a couple of days later, with a Salt Lake postmark.

I don't know what the rhyme or reason is, but it is not
unlikely/unusual, so I don't think you've found a smoking gun (or
WMD, so to speak ;)

As others have noted, you just need to make sure your expectations
are clear in the future, and do whatever you can to help facilitate
your getting paid in a timely manner.
