Okay, I agree, a best practice is not to use Word's GUI to do list
numbering.
However, given the constraint of having to use the GUI, what is the best
way to apply numbering to styles in Word ... specifically, does using
the Outline Numbered tab (versus the Numbered tab) have drawbacks?
Cheers.

I've been following this thread on both TECHWR-L and TCP. While I admire
everyone's resourceful solutions within Sean's constraints, I think the
threads are poorly named. Any approach to outline numbering that
precludes the use of either AutoNum or SEQ fields is hardly "best
practice."
