It's "focusing". That is, as you drill down in the TOC, the other
parts disappear. For example, if you click on Office 2003, you get a
list of all the apps included in it. If you then click on Word 2003,
you get a list of all the topics for Word 2003 (and the other apps go
away for now). If you then want to read about Excel 2003, click on
Office 2003 again, and then click on Excel.

This keeps the TOC from being umpteen screens long, which is what
would happen if you were to drill down and it didn't focus.
