Years ago, I had a job where volunteer members would openly ask employees how much they were getting paid. We were trained to reply: "More than I need, and less than I deserve." The stunning honesty of that reply has proved useful in many positions since then.

(Collateral stunner: That reply is a Googlenope! I mean, it was...)
