Hi Richard,

Try opening (as opposed to editing) the image. To do this:
1. Double-click the image and then click outside
the red-hatched border. This converts the image
into WP Draw format.
2. Right-click the image and then choose "Open" from
the resulting quick-menu. The image opens in its
own window.
You can now work on the image without feeling "claustrophobic"<g>

To answer your questions:

1. I'm unsure what you mean by "meaningful feedback". If you refer
to the image's height, width, etc. then you can obtain this
information from the various image properties dialog boxes in WP.
WP Draw is a vector format and so (embedded bitmaps excepted) you
shouldn't need this information while in Draw.

You change the object's size and location while in WPWin. Right-
click the image and select "Position" or "Size" to open the
relevant dialog boxes. In WPWin, you can also adjust brightness,
contrast, crop the image, etc. Right-click the image and choose
"Image tools".

2. Grouping or combining objects that are already in a single image
is easy. To group, select the objects and press [Ctrl+G].
Refer to the help file for instructions on combining (I no longer
have WPWin 6.1 and my memory isn't that good :-)

You can use the Windows clipboard to copy objects from one image
to another.

If you want to overlay one image onto another then:
i. Set both images' wrap property to "no wrap, through" by
right-clicking the image, choosing "Wrap" from the quick menu,
and selecting the "no wrap" radio button.
ii. Ensure that one image's code (in "Reveal Codes") appears
*immediately* after the other's.
iii. Set both images' anchor-type property to the same value
(either "page" or "paragraph") and adjust their position and
size to suit your requirements.

BTW, the images cannot encroach into the margins. If you wan't to do this
then you must block the images and adjust the margins within the selected
block.

Having written the above, I don't use Draw for WPWin graphics:
1. It's too slow and limited.
2. WPWin saves a copy of the image each time you modify it.
This can result in *huge* files.

If you can, insert the image by reference ("image on disk") and edit it in
some other package (I find Presentations very good for this).
Unfortunately, you can't install WP Presentations 3 onto a Win 95 machine
but it will work if you upgrade a Win 3.1 machine that already has
Presentations installed.

IMHO, you'd find an upgrade to Corel Office Pro 7 beneficial as this
includes Corel Draw! 6.
